OUR PROJECTS

RAE delivers practical projects that create lasting benefits for both households and shared community spaces.

OUR ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Secured $25,000 through Strathbogie Shire for solar panels and battery installation at the Avenel Memorial Hall
  • Gained $10,000 to support incorporation and the development of our strategic plan
  • Provided 14 interest-free loans of $10,000 each to help residents invest in solar panels, batteries, heat banks, and other renewable technologies

CURRENT PROJECTS

GETTING OFF GAS:
Supporting households to transition from gas to electric alternatives, reducing energy costs and improving health outcomes. Gas appliances — particularly heaters and stoves — contribute to rising bills and respiratory health issues, making electrification a safer and more affordable option.

COMMUNITY ENERGY RESILIENCE:
Upgrading solar and battery systems at the Avenel Memorial Hall and Avenel Recreation Centre to provide reliable heat refuge and fire protection during extreme weather events. Funding is currently being sought through AUSNET.

Testimonials

"RAE’s interest-free loan model made installing solar a practical and well-timed decision. Repayments are reinvested into the program, helping support further renewable installations within our community. It’s a sensible, community-focused approach that aligns sustainability with thoughtful financial decision-making."

Danielle, Avenel Resident

Renewable Energy Avenel (RAE) is a community-led organisation formed in 2020, driven by growing concerns around rising power bills and the environmental impact of fossil fuels. We exist to support residents of Avenel and surrounding areas to transition to cleaner, more affordable renewable energy. By providing education, financial support, and practical projects, we aim to reduce household energy costs while protecting the planet for future generations.

Registered Charity

Renewable Energy Avenel (RAE) acknowledges the Taungurung people of the Kulin Nation as the Traditional Owners of the land on which our community lives and works. We recognise their continuing connection to Country and pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.
